School is opening up to the great outdoors

A school has proved it is wide open to ideas, with an 'outdoor' classroom. Teachers and pupils are thrilled with the glass-panelled structure in the grounds of Homefield First School, Bradwell, near Yarmouth.
Headteacher Elizabeth Davis said:
"The beauty of it is that whatever the weather, youngster can be learning and playing in an outdoors environment".
As well as taking part in physical activities such as riding bikes and trikes, the children have planted seeds and created an indoor jungle for nature topic.

Mrs Davis said: "Ofsted inspectors raised the fact that we did not have any large areas for outside learning."
"The has been a lot of research done that shows young children learn more in an outside environment, espacially boys."
The aluminium and steel-framed building has been put up by DALO CANOPIES, a company from Rambouillet, Yarmouth's French twin town,

Mrs Davis said: "This type of building is quite common on the Continent but we think it is unique in Norfolk".

She said it had aroused a lot of interest from other schools and there had already been request for visits.
